The Academy Awards recently announced their Nominations for the upcoming 93rd Ceremony, be it under the situation that is the Pandemic. Oscar's are pretty much the thing to talk about and it looks like it'll be quite the waiting game.
Don't worry, I'm not here to tell you which movie received the most Nominations or what are categories. I'm here to tell you Top 5 Films Nominated to watch before the ceremony and not after.Top 5 Oscar Frontrunner 2021
5. Nomadland
Director- Chloe Zhao; Cast- Francis McCormand
A stellar film which is shot on the backdrop of amazing country side that gives Nomadland a very western film vibe. Led by an amazing performance from now Oscar Winning Actress, Francis McDormand the film will leave you in awe. Chloe Zhao who is very much tge Frontrunner to win the best Director award at Oscar's this year; does an amazing job and hypes up her upcoming film Eternals for Marvel.
4. Judas and the Black Messiah
Director- Shaka King; Cast- Daniel Kaluuya and Lakieth Stanfield
Judas and the Black Messiah have already made history by being Nominated for Best Picture and having been produced by all black filmmakers. Apart from that it tells an inspiring story of Black History and a crucial chapter for the Panthers. Daniel Kaluuya is demanding when it comes to his screen presence in the film and Lakieth Stanfield seems to be at his A Game. Both of them will face off as they are Nominated in the same category at the Academy. Shaka King is also Nominated for Best Director.
3. Sound of Metal
Director- Darius Marder; Cast- Riz Ahmed Olivia Cooke
It is wasn't for the amazing performance from Late Actor Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom for which he is Nominated in the same category as Riz Ahmed, I think Ahmed would be the Frontrunner. Although right now it's 50-50. Ahmed delivers a very mature performance which to be honest, I don't think he has done through out his A List roles. His chemistry with Olivia Cooke is also something to look out for. Paul Raci as Joe is also tge unsung hero of this Masterpiece.
2. Mank
Director- David Fincher; Cast- Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried
A tale about old Hollywood, not just the old Hollywood but regarding the most influential film of all time; Citizen Kane. Gary Oldman plays the Screenwriter behind the acclaimed film who at the time of writing the film was dealing with problems of his own. Fincher's father who penned the script is also a work of art which his son masterfully adapts to big screen. Many feels like a movie made in the past from its Look, Editing, Acting and Directing. Once can't argue it's 10 Nominations.
1. The Trial of the Chicago 7
Director- Aaron Sorkins; Cast- Sacha Baren Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mark Rylance
First of all, thank goodness Sacha Baren Cohen is Nominated for The Trial of Chicago 7 and not Borat. Speaking of Baren Cohen, his performance in the film is the strongest and is my pick for Best Supporting Actor (which he won't win, duh), his performance is both Dramatic and Comedic adjusting to the particular scene and its needs. The dialogue is crisp and often feels like a stage drams while in the court room scenes. Aaron Sorkin not only served as the writer but a director as well, and since much can't be said about his by the books Directing; him being in control of his script and dialogues give The Trial of Chicago 7 an upper edge over the other films.
The Binge Flix Conclusion Top 5 Oscar Frontrunners
Now, I don't have any trust that my list will look exactly like tge Academy Awards winning list but these are my picks. There are tons of great movies Nominated at tge 93rd Academy Awards which one should watch.
From what I have listed, I feel like this would be tge most entertaining for the people of both spectrum; Awards Fare and Entertainment.
Nomadland, Sound of Metal are available on online platforms, where as Mank and The Trial of Chicago 7 are Netflix Originals. Judas and Black Messiah is an HBO Max Original.
