DISNEY PIXAR VS DREAMWORKS ANIMATION - Which One Is The Better Studio ?

Disney Pixar and DreamWorks animations are the leaders of animations, making them rival studios

Disney :

Disney was originally founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio; it also operated under the names The Walt Disney Studio and Walt Disney Productions before officially changing its name to The Walt Disney Company in 1986. The company established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and theme parks.

Since the 1980s, Disney has created and acquired corporate divisions in order to market more mature content than is typically associated with its flagship family-oriented brands. The company is known for its film studio division, The Walt Disney Studios, which includes Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios. Disney’s other main units and reporting segments are Disney Media Networks, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, and Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International. Through these segments, Disney owns and operates the ABC broadcast network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic; publishing, merchandising, music, and theatre divisions; and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, a group of 14 theme parks around the world.

The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since 1991. Cartoon character Mickey Mouse, created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, is one of the world’s most recognizable characters and serves as the company’s official mascot.

Pixar

Pixar Animation Studios, commonly known as Pixar American computer animation studio based in Emeryville, California, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios owned by The Walt Disney Company. Pixar began in 1979 as part of the Lucasfilm computer division, known as the Graphics Group, before its spin-off as a corporation on February 3, 1986, with funding from Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who became its majority shareholder. Disney purchased Pixar in 2006 at a valuation of $7.4 billion by converting each share of Pixar stock to 2.3 shares of Disney stock,a transaction that resulted in Jobs becoming Disney’s largest single shareholder at the time.

Pixar is best known for its feature films technologically powered by RenderMan, the company’s;s own implementation of the industry- standard RenderMan Interface Specification image-rendering application programming interface. Luxo Jr., a character from the studio’s 1986 short film of the same name, is the studio’s mascot.

Pixar has produced 22 feature films, beginning with Toy Story (1995), which was the first ever computer-animated feature film; its most recent film was Onward (2020). All of the studio’s films have debuted with Cinema Score ratings of at least an "A−," which indicates a positive reception with audiences. The studio has also produced dozens of short films. As of July 2019, its feature films have earned approximately $14 billion at the worldwide box office, with an average worldwide gross of $680 million per film. Toy Story 3 (2010), Finding Dory (2016), Incredibles 2 (2018) and Toy Story 4 (2019) are all among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time, with Incredibles 2 being the third highest-grossing animated film of all time, with a gross of $1.2 billion; the other three also grossed over $1 billion. Moreover, 15 of Pixar’s films are in the 50 highest-grossing animated films of all time.

The studio has earned 20 Academy Awards, 8 Golden Globe Awards, and 11 Grammy Awards, along with numerous other awards and acknowledgments. Many of Pixar’s films have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, since its inauguration in 2001, with ten Pixar winners being Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story 3 (2010), Brave (2012), Inside Out (2015), Coco (2017), and Toy Story 4 (2019); the three that were nominated for the award without winning it are Monsters, Inc. (2001), Cars (2006), and Incredibles 2. In addition to that award, Up and Toy Story 3 were also the second and third animated films, respectively, to be nominated for the more inclusive Academy Award for Best Picture (the first being Walt Disney Animation Studio’s; Beauty and the Beast in 1991).

On September 6, 2009, Pixar executives John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, and Lee Unkrich were presented with the Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement by the Venice Film Festival. As part of the ceremony, the physical award was handed to Lucas film’s founder, George Lucas.

DreamWorks Animation

DreamWorks Animation LLC (also simply known as DreamWorks) is an American animation studio and a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, itself a subsidiary of Comcast’s NBC Universal. It is based in Glendale, California, and produces animated feature films, television programs, and online virtual games. The studio has currently released a total of 38 feature films, beginning with Antz (1998); its most recent film is Trolls World Tour (2020), with their next release being The Croods 2 on December 23, 2020. Originally formed as a division of DreamWorks Pictures in 1994 by some alumni from Amblin Entertainments former animation branch Amblimation, it was spun off into a separate public company in 2004. DreamWorks Animation currently maintains its Glendale campus, as well as satellite studios in India and China. On August 22, 2016, NBCUniversal acquired DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion, making it a division of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group as an acquisition for the animation studio.

As of May 2019, its feature films have grossed $15.019 billion worldwide, with a $417.2 million average gross per film. Fifteen of their films produced by the studio are among the 50 highest-grossing animated films, with Shrek 2 being the eleventh all-time highest. Although the studio also made traditionally animated films in the past, as well as two stop-motion co-productions with Aardman Animations, all of their films now use computer animation.

The studio has earned three Academy Awards, as well as 41 Emmy Awards and numerous Annie Awards, and multiple Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. In recent years, the animation studio has acquired and created new divisions in an effort to diversify beyond the high-risk movie business.

Films produced by DreamWorks Animation were originally distributed worldwide by DreamWorks Pictures from 1998 to 2006, then by Paramount Pictures from 2006 to 2012, and 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) from 2013 to 2017. Universal Pictures now distributes subsequent DreamWorks Animation films, which began on February 22, 2019 with the release of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Universal also owns the rights to DWA's back catalog. Even though these studios are rivals , Disney Pixar is still said to be better than DreamWorks animation because Disney is in the billions while DreamWorks animation is in millions.

Both of these studios produce great films. As of 2020, Pixar has released 22 feature films, which were all released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures through the Walt Disney Pictures banner with their first being Toy Story (which was also the first feature-length CGI film ever released), in 1995 and their latest being Onward in 2020.Disney Plus is home to nearly every Pixar movie and short film ever made. This includes classics like & quot;Toy Story" and recent releases like "Coco". Only 21 of the 22 Pixar feature length films are on Disney Plus.

DreamWorks : The studio has currently released a total of 38 feature films, beginning with Antz (1998); its most recent film is Trolls World Tour (2020), with their next release being The Croods 2 on December 23, 2020.
