The Courier starring Benedict Cumberbatch sees him being a spy be it unintentionally under the direction of Dominic Cooke, with a strong screenplay penned by Tom O'Connor. This True Drama has a stellar cast which not only has Benedict Cumberbatch as Greville but also has the likes of Rachel Brosnahan, Jessie Buckley and Merab Ninidze.
The Courier Tightly Knit Drama
I think it'll be alright to say everyone is a sucker for a History lesson which was never taught. Now I don't know how much of The Courier is True and how much of the events are based on similar True occurrence, but the way they are presented both by the amazing script which gradually increases the stakes and a very toned direction which gives the film a spy espionage vibe almost going near to a very different but commendable Bond Movie sans the campiness. The Courier Stellar Acting Ensemble
The stage is set for great actors to show their craft. I mean if anyone is going to watch this movie they are going to be watching it for Benedict Cumberbatch but one will have a lot to leave with. Rachel Brosnahan and Jessie Buckley are on top of their game both serving as two female leads very different to one another in an interesting time period. Merab Ninidze offers a very different spin on the role that he plays of Oleg. His scenes with Benedict Cumberbatch are on fire. Now coming to Benedict Cumberbatch, he is such a rare breed of an actor. His role in The Courier is so nuanced and very understated that it is a joy to see an actor of his caliber do it. Often you'd forget that he also embodies Doctor Strange in a larger universe of Marvel.
The Courier Sadly Not Mainstream
The Courier is receiving rave reviews from the people who are seeing it and if the word of mouth is strong enough it can reach the wider audience. I feel I'm doing that. It is rated at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes with 112 reviews and an aggregate opinion that reads, "The Courier delivers a rousingly effective old-school spy adventure elevated by a thrilling fact-based story and Benedict Cumberbatch's nervy central performance."
The Binge Flix Conclusion The Courier
The Courier is a very tightly knit Drama which can be a slow burn but the pay off at the end is worth the film's runtime.
Benedict and Ninidze offers a very non cliché version of movie partnership and an endearing one at the most.
The Courier is available on various OTT platforms such as Apple TV.
