A web series is a series of scripted or non-scripted online videos, generally in episodic form, released on the Internet and part of the web television medium, which first emerged in the late 1990s and became more prominent in the early 2000s. A single instance of a web series program can be called an episode or “webisode”, however the latter term is not often used. In general, web series can be watched on a range of platforms and devices, including desktop, laptop, tablets and smartphones. They can also be watched on television. 10.Wizards

Wizards: Tales of Arcadia (or simply Wizards) is an American computer-animated fantasy limited series created by Guillermo del Toro, and produced by DreamWorks Animation Television and Double Dare You Productions.

The series is the third and final installment of the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, following Trollhunters (2016–2018) and 3Below (2018–2019), and was released on August 7, 2020 on Netflix.

It is the first and only limited series in the Tales of Arcadia franchise, one that explores the world’s mythological origins and introduces a new protagonist in Hisirdoux “Douxie” Casperan, an erstwhile apprentice to the legendary Merlin who was forgotten for centuries and is now eager to prove his worth as a sorcerer in the eyes of his former master.

Despite its brevity, Wizards has been widely acclaimed by critics as a groundbreaking animated series, both for its complex storytelling and high quality animation, with Alci Rengifo of Entertainment Voice writing, “Del Toro wants everyone, even the adults, to get something out of Wizards. This makes it an adventure worth taking, like any great fairy tale.”It will be followed by a full-length feature film titled Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, scheduled for release in 2021.

9.The Stranger

The Stranger is an eight-part British mystery thriller series written primarily by Danny Brocklehurst and based on the 2015 Harlan Coben novel of the same title. The miniseries premiered on Netflix on 30 January 2020. It stars Richard Armitage, Siobhan Finneran and Hannah John-Kamen. It was filmed in and around Manchester.

A mysterious stranger tells a man a secret that has a devastating impact on his seemingly perfect life. This Stranger is a woman in her 20s with a baseball cap, and is learned to be correlated with more secrets as the series progresses. This secret affects the man’s wife who goes missing as a result.

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported an 83% approval rating for the miniseries with an average rating of 6.63/10, based on 24 reviews. The website’s critical consensus states, “If not quite as addicting [addictive] as its source material, The Stranger has a strong cast and enough tension to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 62 out of 100, based on 5 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

8.Hollywood

Hollywood is an American drama web television miniseries starring an ensemble of David Corenswet, Darren Criss, Laura Harrier, Joe Mantello, Dylan McDermott, Jake Picking, Jeremy Pope, Holland Taylor, Samara Weaving, Jim Parsons, and Patti LuPone. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, it was released on Netflix on May 1, 2020.

The miniseries is about a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers during the Hollywood Golden Age in the post-World War II era trying to make their dreams come true.The series received mixed reviews from critics who praised the acting and production values, but criticized the tone, writing, and artistic license taken. The series has received 12 nominations at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, including acting nods for Pope, Taylor, McDermott, and Parsons.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 57% based on 118 reviews, with an average rating of 5.97/10. The site’s critical consensus reads: “With its heart on its sleeve and style to spare, Hollywood is anything but subtle – if only its good intentions were paired with a less convoluted story.” On Metacritic, the series has a weighted average score of 55 out of 100, based on 33 critics, indicating “mixed or average reviews”.

Writing for the Chicago Sun-Times, Richard Roeper gave the series two-and-a-half stars out of four, saying: “It’s a fascinating blend of fact (or least stories based on factual characters) and fiction, and the performances from the cast of rising stars and reliable veterans are dazzling — but like many a motion picture, Hollywood can’t overcome script problems that surface about midway through the story.”

7.I Am Not Okay With This

I Am Not Okay with This is an American coming-of-age comedy-drama web television series, based on the comic book of the same name by Charles Forsman. It was released on Netflix on February 26, 2020. The series received positive reviews, with praise for the performances, particularly from Lillis and Oleff. In August 2020, the series was canceled after one season due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On December 12, 2018, it was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order for an eight-episode first season, of which only seven were produced. The series was created by Jonathan Entwistle and Christy Hall, who are credited as executive producers alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry. also directed the series. The series was released on February 26, 2020. The series was renewed by Netflix for a second season. On August 21, 2020, Netflix canceled the series after one season due to COVID-related circumstances.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an 86% approval rating with 65 reviews, with an average rating of 6.82/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “As awkward and charming as adolescence, but with twice the supernatural twists, I Am Not Okay With This’ first season at times veers into shallow territory, but Sophia Lillis’ strong performance keeps it afloat.” Review aggregator Metacritic gave the series a score of 68 out of 100 based on 16 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

6.Cursed

Cursed is an American fantasy drama web television series, based on the illustrated novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, that premiered on Netflix on July 17, 2020. The set location of the series is the United Kingdom.

Writing for Deadline, Nellie Andreeva describes Cursed as “a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.” In another piece on that site, Andreeva calls the show “a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible”.

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes compiled 47 reviews, identified 68% of them as positive, and assessed an average rating of 6.03/10. The website’s critics consensus states, “Cursed’s first season isn’t as subversive as its source material, but strong plotting and a heroic performance from Katherine Langford make for an enjoyable escape.”Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the show a score of 57 out of 100 based on 11 reviews, indicating “mixed or average reviews”. Lucy Mangan from The Guardian criticized the writing and the acting, but wrote that “at times during its 10 beautifully meaningless hours, it’s great fun”. Huw Fullerton of Radio Times also opined about the “awkward performances and exposition” while saying that the series “never quite feels big enough to tell this epic story [...] but overall the storytelling does a good job of showcasing varied, interesting characters in a growing cycle of violence.”

5.Locke And Key

Locke & Key is an American supernatural horror drama web television series developed by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite, based on the comic-book series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez. It premiered on Netflix on February 7, 2020. The series stars Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Laysla De Oliveira, Petrice Jones, and Griffin Gluck.. In March 2020, Netflix announced that the series had been renewed for a second season.

After Rendell Locke is murdered at the hands of former student Sam Lesser, his wife Nina decides to move with her three children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode, from Seattle to Matheson, Massachusetts, and take residence in Rendell’s family home, Keyhouse. The children soon discover a number of mysterious keys throughout the house that can be used to unlock various doors in magical ways. They soon become aware, though, of a demonic entity that is also searching for the keys for its own malevolent purposes.

The series received generally positive reviews from critics, with the score, set design, and visual effects being singled out as highlights of the series.] Critics mainly praised the series’ handling of themes relating to loss and trauma, as well as its use of horror genre elements, while criticizing the use of teen drama and romance subplots to drag out the story. The performances of Jackson Robert Scott and Laysla de Oliveira received particular praise.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a 66% approval rating with 61 reviews, with an average rating of 6.58/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “Though Locke & Key at times struggles to strike a consistent tone, it captures enough of the essence of its source material to provide a fiendishly fun and sufficiently spooky time.” On Metacritic the series has a score of 62 out of 100 based on 19 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

4.Outer Banks

 Outer Banks is an American action-adventure mystery teen drama web television series created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke that premiered on Netflix on April 15, 2020.In July 2020, the series was renewed for a second season.

Outer Banks follows a group of teenagers in the Outer Banks of North Carolina who are called “Pogues”, who live at The Cut, and are determined to find out what happened to the missing father of the group’s ringleader, John B. Along the way, they discover a legendary treasure that is tied to John B’s father.

Chased by the law and a wealthy and superior group called the “Kooks” from Figure Eight, the Pogues seek to overcome obstacles such as drugs, love, fighting, friendship, money and how the rich keep on winning in their quest to reach John B’s father’s goal that he had been working on for 20 years. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 71% based on 21 reviews, with an average rating of 6.72/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “Outer Banks’ over-the-top melodrama is balanced out by a strong sense of adventure that’s bound to hook those looking to capture that summer feeling.” On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 61 out of 100 based on 9 reviews, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

3.Ragnarock

Ragnarok is a Norwegian-language fantasy drama series inspired by Norse mythology from Netflix that premiered on 31 January 2020. It is Netflix’s second Norwegian-language TV series, following Home for Christmas. The series is produced by the Danish production company SAM Productions. The show has been renewed for a second season.

The show takes place in the fictional Norwegian town of Edda in Hordaland, Western Norway,which is plagued by climate change and the industrial pollution caused by the factories owned by the local Jutul family, the fifth-richest family in Norway. The Jutuls are actually four Jötunn, frost giants and giantesses posing as a family in Edda.  They are challenged by Magne, a teenage boy who is surprised to learn that he is the embodiment of Thor and begins the fight against those that are destroying the planet.

The series holds a rating of 7.5 on IMDb. Wired said Ragnarok was “angsty, eccentric” “climate change fiction” and compared it to Twilight.The A.V. Club also compared it to Twilight.

The series was not well received by some Norwegian media. VG called it nonsensical, said that the characters, plots, and dialogue were a failure, and noted that even though it was in Norwegian that it felt more like a Danish series.Despite being set in Western Norway, the characters do not speak in western dialect. Dagbladet called it a stilted mixture of Skam and Norse mythology, “just as bad as it sounds”.

2.Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever is an American coming of age comedy-drama television series starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. The comedy is partially based on Kaling’s real childhood story, growing up in the Boston area. It premiered on Netflix on May 21, 2020, and is about an Indian American high school student dealing with the death of her father.The series received positive reviews. The series has been described as a watershed moment for South Asian representation in Hollywood and has been praised for breaking Asian stereotypes.[6][7][8] On July 1, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a second season.

The story centers around Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a 15-year-old girl from Sherman Oaks, California. After a socially horrible freshman year, Devi wants to change her social status, but friends, family, and feelings do not make it easy for her.

After Devi’s father, Mohan (Sendhil Ramamurthy) passes away, Devi loses the use of her legs for three months. The following year, she tries to deal with her grief, Indian identity and school life, also struggling with her relationship with her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan), her beautiful cousin, Kamala (Richa Moorjani), her two best friends, Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), her high school crush, Paxton (Darren Barnet), and her nemesis, Ben (Jaren Lewison).

The series is mostly narrated by professional tennis player John McEnroe, with one of the episodes narrated by Andy Samberg.

1.Warrior Nun

Warrior Nun is an American fantasy drama web television series created by Simon Barry based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn.

Originally developed as a feature film adaptation, the idea was re-imagined as a television series for Netflix when the service had given the production a series order for a first season. Filming takes place in multiple locations in Andalusia Spain, such as Antequera, where the headquarters of the fictional Order of the Cruciform Sword was filmed.

The series is narrated and led by Portuguese actress Alba Baptista in the role of Ava Silva, a quadriplegic orphan who discovers she now has supernatural powers which force her to join an ancient order of warrior nuns. The series marks Baptista’s English-language debut. The cast also features Toya Turner, Thekla Reuten, Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young and Tristan Ulloa.The series debuted on July 2, 2020 on Netflix, to generally positive reviews.In August 2020, the series has been renewed for a second season.

Warrior Nun revolves around the story of a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of the ancient Order of the Cruciform Sword that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
