Why does The Boys Copy Marvel And DC Characters ?

Superman vs Homelander vs Captain America

The Boys is the hottest new thing which has taken the streaming platform by storm. Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even revered as gods. But that’s when they’re using their powers for good.

What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it’s the powerless against the super powerful, The Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. Based on the comic book series of the same name. But what we wanna focus for this article is the similarities that The Boys characters share with that of Marvel & DC.

Homelander from The Boys

1.Homelander

Is like Evil Superman/Captain America

Homelander played by Anthony Start is the breakout hit from The Boys, he plays the big bad of the show but the audience don't want him to die. the whole excitement is to see what he does in an arguement as Homelander is unpredictable as hell.

The appeal of Homelander does come from his similarities from Superman as the basic power set between both the characters are exactly the same. The public relation front has painted Homelander in the American White Red and Blue a very similar aspect to that of Captain America.

Similarities between Superman and Homelander :

  • Superhuman strength
  • Invulnerability
  • Superhuman speed
  • Heat vision
  • Flight
  • Superhuman hearing
  • X-Ray vision

Queen Maeve in a still from Ther Boys

2.Queen Maeve

Is like Wonder Woman

Queen Maeve’s power set is definitely very similar to Wonder Woman same as her costume is. The Boys also addresses the same-ness between the two characters by making a bold move that is revealing Maeve as gay, a thing which DC comics although have referred to for Wonder Woman but have never accepted as to maintain the mainstream appeal of the character between Men and Women fans alike. The Boys is basically making a bold front and offering a new twist on similar heroes.

Similarities between Queen Maeve and Wonder Woman:

  • Superhuman strength
  • Enhanced durability
  • Superhuman agility/reflexes
  • Superhuman stamina
  • Accelerated healing
  • Expert in hand-to-hand combat
Deep from The Boys

3.The Deep

Is like Aquaman

We won’t get into the shitty thing that The Deep did during Season 1 as it is unspeakable. However Deep is more of a characteristic that earlier depiction of Aquaman used to share before we actually saw Aquaman become badass in his own film.

Aquaman has been the butt of jokes for playing a character who can talk to fish and have no use whatsoever on Land, that obviously changed with new envisioned Aquaman by Zack Snyder and later James Wann but The Boys seems to be only focusing on the lame aspects of the character.

Similarities between The Deep and Aquaman:

  • Superhuman strength
  • Aquatic telepathy
  • Enhanced swimming
  • Ability to breath underwater
  • Enhanced durability

starlight from The Boys

4.Starlight

Is like Supergirl.

In the comic series, she is known by her superhero alias, Starlight. She has the ability to emit blinding light from her hands and also the ability to fly.She joined the Seven after the death of previous member Lamplighter, leaving her previous superhero group Young Americans.

On joining, she is shocked to discover the true nature of the other members of the Seven. On her first visit, the Homelander gives her the choice of providing him, A-Train, and Black Noir with oral sex, or leaving the group. Her costume is modified against her will to be more revealing, and she has often been tricked into humiliating situations.

Similarities between Starlight and Supergirl:

  • Energy absorption
  • Superhuman strength
  • Enhanced durability

Black Noir from The Boys

5.Black Noir

Is like Deathstroke/Slade

Black Noir is a long-time member of the Seven, almost always shown in silhouette with his face obscured. His powers include super strength and supposed skills as a pilot. He is stronger than even the Homelander; Mother’s Milk states he can, “Bench a dozen Mack trucks”.

While initially an enigma, it is revealed at the climax of the series that Black Noir is actually a clone of the Homelander, developed by Vought-American as a contingency in case the leader of the Seven became a liability.

Similarities between Deathstroke/Slade and Black Noir:

  • Enhanced strength
  • Enhanced durability
  • Enhanced agility
  • Enhanced hearing
  • Martial Arts
  • Weaponry skills
A-Train from The Boys

6.A-Train

Is like The Flash

A-Train is a superhero with super-speed whose carelessness was responsible for the accidental death of Wee Hughie’s girlfriend in the first issue. A-Train was formerly a member of the Teenage Kix, but was promoted to the Seven as a replacement to Mister Marathon.

He is the most juvenile and crudest member of the Seven, being the one who most openly enjoys humiliating Starlight. A heavy drug user and bitter over Starlight, A-Train openly expresses a desire to assault her again.

Similarities between A-Train and The Flash:

  • Superhuman speed
  • Superhuman agility/reflexes
  • Accelerated healing
  • Enhanced durability

Translucent from The Boys

7.Translucent

Is like Emma Frost

Translucent is a member of the Seven exclusive to the television series, played by Alex Hassell. He possesses carbon meta-material skin that bends light, allowing him to become invisible, and also makes him nearly impenetrable to injury.

After being captured by The Boys following his attack on Hughie, Translucent is later killed when Hughie detonates a C4 explosive suppository inserted into his rectum after Butcher and Frenchie deduce that his powerful skin does not protect him from internal trauma. His remains are later found by Homelander. By season 2, Homelander holds a funeral for him while stating that he died taking on El Diablo’s cartel.

Similarities between Translucent and Emma Frost:

  • Illusion of invisibility
  • Skin hardening
  • Enhanced durability
  • Superhuman strength

DCEU vs THE BOYS vs MARVEL

Why The Boys have these Similarities?

The Boys creator Erik Kripke’s goal is to create a superhero story that feels down right real in the Grimm world we share, where not everyone with abilities would be willing to help mankind and would rather have money made over fame and popularity.

The corporate aspects of The Boys speaks volumes and draws real life comparison because that’s how people think, The Boys shows a world which doesn’t care that it’s going to shut rather how one can make money and mind their own business. Very similar world eh?

The Binge Flix Conclusion

Over at The Binge Flix we don’t mind the comparison between the Boys and other comic book labels as The Boys is incredibly interesting. The Boys also happens to be incredibly Binge worthy, but corporate people at prime don’t seem to agree as The boys have shifted from it’s Binge release to a weekly release for Season 2, a cheap tactic to keep hold of the subscribers.

Subscribers are talking about this on social media, it’s all gone wild for a while because of how they’re releasing the episodes. Anyway, we wish you all the best watching The Boys especially when Homelander comes in the scene (it’s all gross all the time) also the newest member seems kind of fishy “Stormfront” . We hope you enjoy watching this show!! ;)
